DS Outlook

I know some people who read this are more than likely going “WTF was that entry yesterday? There are like no games coming out for the DS that I want.” Well there are alot I am following. If half of games end up getting purchased by myself that is a hearty list of games alone. On top of all that, you have games not yet announced. I hold out hope that Blizzard will develop for the DS. Anyways…

Caduceus: Surgical Operation [Import]

Ok, here is a game that really interests me. The premise is simple, you’re a surgeon. You need to cut open a paitent (on the lower screen) and fix what is wrong. In order to keep you’re paitient calm you can talk calmly to them with the mic attached to the DS. There are not a whole lot of details about it yet, but I am really excited about the innovations involved with it.

The Cautions: Could be way too short. With the price of importing a DS game I don’t want a one play through game that is fun for only 1 hour. I am not sure you could make this game really long… I am also worried that it may be too dependant on knowing Japanese. Hopefully a US publishing house will pick it up.

Chance of Purchase: Probably

Feel the Magic: XY/XX

Style and art direction go a long way with me on this. Aside from that a mini-game game is my kind of game (see also: Wario Ware). Now top that all off with SEGA being behind it I am sold. This one is out so I will probably pick it up soon.

The Cautions: Their may not be enough mini-games. I could always just go for high score, but Mario 64 DS already has a bunch of those.

Chance of Purchase: High

Band Brothers (AKA Jam with the Band)

Honestly this could be the first portable rhythm game worth getting for a non-novelty purpose. There are a lot of pit falls for it. The premise is simple you get to be one of the instruments for a band that comprises of your friends, literally. Using the wireless connection your friend will play bass while you get drums and what not up to (I think) 8 players. This is supposedly the sequel to a canceled GB game.

The Cautions: Could be way too simple and have a tiny song list. Now it has even greater potential to be great than to suck though. I have a feeling this will be about as complicated as Donkey Konga, which is not a good thing.

Chance of Buying: Not enough info.

Mr. Driller Drill Spirits

I love puzzlers. I love cute stuff. What a combo right here. Ever since I put 2 credits into an arcade cabinet for Mr Driller 2 at a Dave and Busters in Chicago I have had a warm spot in my heart for this guy. Being that this is out now in the US (first one too) I should be driving to pick this game up right? Yes soon I promise.

Cautions: Too short, and no challenge. Not likely.

Buying: Defiantly

Mario Kart DS

Ok we all know what Mario Kart is, it has been available since SNES and every N system since. I really hope that this makes good use of WiFi. Otherwise MK is not a great single player game.

Cautions: It could be multiplayer only, not online, which would suck.

Chance of Buying: Need more multiplayer info

Ridge Racer DS

I love RR: Type 4 for the PS1. In fact it is my all time fav racer (no I have not gotten OutRun 2 yet). The screen shots I have seen make it look like the DS’ lower screen will be used like a JogCon which is a perfect controller for RR: Type 4. The only difference is that the JogCon has force feedback and the DS will not.

Cautions: Too few tracks has been a problem on a few RR games for me. Also some really bad reviews about the game could deter me. I am not a huge racing fan.

Buying: Medium possibility

Viewtiful Joe DS

Hell yea. What a fun game, well the first one, have not played the second. Also the idea that a good beat’m’up is coming to the DS is awesome. Little to no details aside from name given yet, so not much to talk about.

Cautions: How the hell are they going to use the touch screen? This does not strike me as a game needing 2 screens.

Buying: Highly Probable

Wario Ware: Touched

Awesome. I am having such a blast with the mini games on SM64DS that I can’t wait for this title. I loved the original and am eagerly awaiting the sequel for the GBA which I will also buy.

Cautions: That the touch screen mini games are too difficult to switch from the D-pad back to the touch screen. Also if too many mini games are re-used from WW1&2 (ala Wario Ware for the GC) then it will not be too good.

Buying: Oh yea.

Goemon (Mystical Ninja) [Import]

If you have played these games for the SNES before you will know what I am talking about. These games are quite excellent and the new art style for them looks quite good. Very nice looking stuff and I look forward to it.

Cautions: Like every other DS game, how will they use the touch screen. Something about special moves, but …

Buying: More than likely. Along with GBA Goemon 1+2 :D

Zoo Keeper

Ok, we have another puzzler. Lets face it, it is Bejeweled. But it has a better art style than bejeweled and a touch screen.

Cautions: Could get old fast.

Buying: Definatly

Advance Wars DS

How do you not know about Advance Wars. 1 was amazing and I still play it. I never got around to #2 because I am still playing one on and off. A stylus and wireless play? Hells yea.

Cautions: Big N would have to go out of their way to fuck this up, I see none.

Buying: When? Now!

Animal Crossing

The original game I played a touch of. I liked it but it felt neutered. Like it was ment to be played online, not on a console. If the online capabilities shape up for this game it could turn into an amazing time killer that would be constantly on at work.

Cautions: Their online plans could involve a really long fruit code :/

Buying: Don’t know yet.

Yoshi Touch ‘n Go

Need more info, but I am a sucker for Nintendo mascots.

~~The following are tentative announces. I look forward to seeing what fruits they bear. Some are pretty much promised buys (Super Mario, Castlevania) others I will be keeping my eye on:
Castlevania, Boktai, FF: Crystal Chronicles, D3’s SIMPLE DS series, Harvest Moon DS, New Side scrolling Super Mario and Super Princess Peach.
