Work and Games
I really hate work.
I really love Rygar.
Let’s talk about Rygar then.
I recently did something I probably shouldn’t have. I watched a superplay video of Rygar. By recently I mean about 5 months ago. See, when ever I think of Rygar now that is what comes into my head; that super play. The guy beats Rygar in something like 8 min using tons of tricks and bugs. He even died once to abuse some kind of restart bug.
It was terrible. It destroyed everything I held onto about the game. There was a point that I honestly believed that the game was unbeatable. Not that a normal human couldn’t do it, but that there was no ending. I thought it was an open ended game of exploration with weird giant fat men who gave you cryptic clues.
There are honestly boss battles that are so hard you will cry. Perhaps not cry, but you get the point. I recall one beast who lived in the back of the woods and would shoot a three way shot at you. — I should take this moment to explain that Rygar has one of the most fun and useless things in a game ever: bouncing. If you jump on to a creature (like Mario would if he was going to kill it) you just start to bounce. Over and over and over… this can be used to your advantage from time to time, but mostly it is just, fun. — So this beast in the woods had to take about a million hits to kill. I managed to get the timing of the three way shot down pretty well, and the distance to be from his face and when to jump to avoid the flames.
The first time I beat the beast was when I jumped on its back in an act of desperation really close to the wall. He started to scream and his sprite would swap horizontally extremely quickly as he backed up and screamed at the same time. Rygar just bounced. After a fit of screaming and shaking and attempting to kill me with fireballs the creature backed into the wall so far that he disappeared and I beat him opening a door.
I never managed to replicate that feat. I never beat him again either.
I really loved Rygar. Always attempting to get to rumored city in the sky. Collecting all the extra weapons. Never actually beating it though. Now I know it can be beaten. I am a little ruined inside.
