Think I finished

Ok, well, I think I finished registering for E3.

I know I need to do some registration stuff for people here too. So what I need you to get me your info if you are going for The Gamer’s Quarter. Email me if you don’t know what it is that I need. I will then put together and fax your packages ASAP.

Man, I am so glad to get this off my back. I really wanted to wait for this issue to finish up though.

Sorry if this totally does not apply to you, but I did make it friends only.

I feel the chill

See, it is the really small things that please me apparently. I have been with out a refrigerator since mid-Jan because when I asked the front desk at the hotel about it I was told that I do not get one. So today (after a mix up about me getting kicked out of the hotel, but I am not getting kicked out) I found out that yes, I am supposed to have one.

Better late than never I guess.

Happy Birthday to me

So I got myself some gifts and I also received some from people too (well my parents). I am going to hang out with Toups and DaleNixon tonight and hope that ThatBox shows up too.

I will start out with stuff I got for myself:

Rule of Rose. I got this because it was on sale. Little did I know that sale was only for $5 off, but oh well.

So I got it because I have watched the trailer about 20 times now. There are elements in it that just creep me right the hell out. I figured at $20 it was worth just poking around with. I am pretty sure this is not coming to the US just because of the age of the characters. I don’t have any idea if it is good or not, but I recall reading one thing about it being underwhelming.

I got the chinese version because it comes with english instructions, and I figure at worst I can manage to learn a few key menu items with the manual. But! It looks like there are either; a) English subtitles or B) English Dialouge, based on the back of the box. I also thought this may be the case because the song and title of the game are in english for the trailer. It could be wrong here, but either way (wrong or not) I will still probably fiddle with it and come back with impressions.

Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box. I have been eyeing this for quite a while. Mainly for Alien Soldier, but also for a copy of both Dynamite Headdys (I do have the US version, which is very different) and something to finally replace my Genesis GSHs.

I also bought the Saturn pad in a previous order in preperation for this game although I have not really had the money to get it since it came out. This game also has a contoller setting for the 6 button Saturn pad specifically.

Hell yes! I have had one of these in my hands at Best Buy so many times. The personalisation options that it offered were awesome and I was wanting to make a cool TGQ one. The problem was that I knew I did not use my PSP that much so I never had enough justification to purchase it.

Well, seeing this in orange (completly by chance too) made buying one a stupidly easy decision. I love orange, and I have never seen one of these before in the color. Unfortunatly, having it in my hands now, it is a bit more red than in the picture, but still not as red as this Webster Dictonary sitting next to me.

GASHAPON~! So yea, I got one of these and was lucky enough to get the Trace Memories one! I was really hoping it was any but the Nintendogs one, but this was an awesome suprize. I also got two Wario Ware ones, and two Game Boy History gashapons.

The Game Boy History ones are beyond awesome. They have all the parts and are completly connectable. I got the OG Game Boy one and the Game Boy Pocket one. Cool stuff all around.

From my Parents:

For my Christmas list I was scraping my brain to put down games I had been mildly interested in, but never bought. Zelda: The Minish Cap was one of the. My parents got it for me. I am neither super excited nor depresed with the idea of play it. I am actually interested in it seeing how I have not been able to stand the 3D versions of Zelda. So, yea, Zelda.

~ Best Buy Gift Card. Sweet! I am totally picking up Capcom PSP collection and Maverick Hunter X.

I tried playing this for the PSP again last night. I really like the game. Too much probably because I have not put 3 hours into it. It looks good on the PSP: no bluring, and the text is very crips in most cases.

The load times are unexcuasbly long and frequent. I am going to sell this game becuase it is practially unplayable. Perhaps someone who already beat the game and just wants to see the extra stuff will want it.

I really can’t recommend this game to anyone aside from the hard core. There is some music you can unlock somehow, and I am sure you can download a save game rather than sit through the game. So perhaps that is redeeming enough for some.

Also, I played a couple hours of Metal Gear Ac!d last night. It is no where near as bad as I expected, and the title is quite fitting. Sorry, that was long, especially if you sat through the lj-cut.

GDC Awards

Holy crap! An award ceremony for games that dosen’t suck.

God of War is finally dismissed. I have said before, I dispise the game. So I am glad to see it get knocked down. I am now under the impression that GoW only got as much attention as it did because of the DevBlog that Jaffe did.

The Gamer’s Quarter Issue 5 is done

The Gamer’s Quarter #5 is now available for download here. Well actually it was done a few days ago, but I have been relaxing a little. Please read it if you get a chance.

Now I can play all the games I have been amassing for the last 3 weeks or so. I updated my firmware from my PSP last week to 2.60 so that I can play Mega Man Powered Up. Yes, this means that I no longer emulate anything on my PSP. But, it is a fantastic game and still a challenge. With the new SD-Cutey look to everything I was honestly a bit worried that the gameplay would be tweaked and easier as well. This is not the case. The custom stuff is reall great too. I downloaded a Japanese created level called “full automatic” or something very similar (in romanji on the top rated section). It is an excellent example of level design. They made it so that you travel the entire level without pressing a single button using some really neat tricks. You only have to fire one shot at the end. I have not played as Roll yet because I am still on the boss rush (third level of Dr. Wiley) but I look forward to playing her and Proto-man. Honestly if this was the last ever “Mega Man” game released I would be really content with it. It could be expanded on for years to come.

I also got Exit… which is a good game that has suffered from possibly the most backhanded advertising. It is not fast at all. In fact, it is a puzzle game that moves a little slow. The controls are a bit difficult to work with at first, but it uses the PSP’s layout well. Some control aspects that seem stupid and overly complicated (which is too strong a word really, they are not complicated, they just involve an extra button press that you would think necessary), end up really working once you get into the game proper. As a warning: the tutorial stages are really, really slow and long. If you get the game expect them to be bad: the game gets much better. Although I don’t know if it was worth the $40. There are all kinds of neat details sprinkled in the game, like one of the people you rescue is suffering from a messy divorce from the guy you rescued in the previous building.

Because of a certain Mr. Toups I now own 2 copies of Dino Crisis. I started to play it last night, and while I loved the first 15 min or so, I think that I just suck at old survival horror games. I die, a lot. Too much in fact, and these Raptors seem completly randomly placed. You have too few bullets and too many dinos. Well, I may give it another chance tonight, who knows.

I also got Ibara, or rather finally got, as it was sitting on my desk at work when I returned from St. Louis. I have played total only about 2 hours (one hour a week ago monday when I got it, a half hour tues, and a half hour last night). I can only get to the second level boss on one credit with my best score being 1.3mil. I will give it more time before I give detailed impressions, but so far I like it. There is difinatly a Raizing vibe to it, and I really love Raizing shooters. In fact I only ordered because I found out that it was developed by old Raizing guys.

And so it is a slow work day today. I am playing Shirien The Wanderer (which recently hit 100% fan translation level) and enjoying it even thought I don’t exactly know what I am doing. I have also have two more articles at GameSetWatch: Lords of Thunder and Metal Slug. Enjoy!

Dead not dreaming

hc2.jpgI don’t know how many people there are left reading this anymore, nonetheless I made this entry friends only.

I have a column now at GameSetWatch writing about my favorite kinds of games. This is truly a great thing, and because of it I will be able to better (well, less worried about) run The Gamer’s Quarter.

I am pretty excited about this really.

Also, I am currently in St. Louis visiting my wife. Tie that in with working on the magazine and trying to secure my position with GameSetWatch would explain (somewhat) why I have been fairly absent of late on LJ.

I will get better, it is just that I may be streaching myself too thin is all. By better I mean posting here more.

Sorry about that if anyone out there was honestly upset.
