Screw GoW II

As some of you may know: I found God of War for the PlayStation 2 to be one of the most offensivly written games I’ve ever played. Combine this with some of the most fluid and, at points, awe striking games I played that year I was in severe pain.

Today while browsing Gamasutra I came across their most recent Critical Reception (’sup sardius) and found this quote in there:

“‘I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention God of War II’s storyline as one of the major draws of the title,’ Graziani notes in particular. ‘Simply put, this game rivals Hollywood as far as production values and artistry are concerned. Each snippet of Kratos’ infernal struggle is lovingly crafted and the mood of the game positively pours out of the television screen. It’s just unbelievably gorgeous.’”

That’s some serious bs Graziani is throwing around. Or he’s never experienced a well written story of internal struggle and has to settle for the immature brand of it from comic books and pornography.

Goals must be set!

Ok, I’m really going to make a better effort about updating this thing (I know you probably hear that all the time with other people though).

So, I decided that I really, really need to start writing more. My current job has sucked the life out of me it seems, and I need to fight back! Or something like that anyways.

Since I’ve already made my order and you can’t take my extra stock of criterion films, I might as well let you in on the 40% off sale for Criterion Collection DVDs over at Deep Discount DVD. My haul includes many films which I’ve been looking at getting for a while but not for $30+

Bicycle Thief
Branded to Kill
Double Suicide
Good Morning
Tokyo Drifter
Beauty and the Beast
Peeping Tom
Lower Depths: Two Films By Akira Kurosawa / Jean Renoir
Sanjuro
Le Samourai
Naked Lunch
High and Low

The amount of Kurosawa films missing from my collection continues to dwindle! I also picked up _the quite duel_ which I just happened to stumble on in Fry’s when in California. I mean, seriously, what the hell was that doing in the horror section (if it makes sense don’t tell me!).

Suda51 and Matt (GDC Roundup!)

Well, GDC is over.

It was amazing. I got to interview a ton of people including: Jenova Chen, Derek Yu, Jeff Minter, Trip Hawkins, Koji Igarashi, and Goichi Suda (see image). There were quite a few others, but these are the big ones. Most of these I had to use guerrilla tactics to obtain and it’s all in my quest to answer a question for an upcoming article in the next issue.

I also saw some really amazing things that have changed my outlook on games. At least it has a present. I got to hang out Derek Yu quite a bit and decided to start writing for TIG Source.

I went to a fantastic party on Thursday night and if you want more info you can go here for Gamecock. It was a really amazing thing and I got to make a lot of contacts there. I also went to the Nokia party last night, but it was godawful.

Anyways, it’s done. I am going to do some touristy stuff tomorrow (Golf Land Arcade, and Fry’s) and then flying home on Sunday.

GDC is a storm

This must be the calm before the storm. Most of my things are packed, and I’m heading out for GDC in about 3 hours.

Unfortunately I have less/worse interviews set up now than I did at E3, but I winged it there, and I’ll do the same here and come up with something interesting. Otherwise assume that I will be asking small time publishers some of the most off the wall bat-shit crazy questions just to see what sticks.

If anyone is going and wants to meet up let me know! Or, just call me:

504 - 237 - 0881

Well, I’m off to get a haircut.

Also, in case you didn’t know (because I forgot to post it here) the most recent Issue of The Gamer’s Quarter is up! It’s damn good, and I talk about Ghosts ‘N Goblins in it. It’s our capcom issue and very blue!
